Autism: I Didn't Know He Could Do That

One of the unique challenges of having a mostly non-verbal child on the autism spectrum is that sometimes teachers work on a skill at school and you never hear about it. For example, Nathan has gone to PE at school for years...and somewhere during all those years at school, someone taught him to shoot baskets.I had no idea.Seriously, he doesn't tell me who he hung out with at school or what he did that day--EVER. If the teacher didn't write me a note every once in a while I would have no idea what his day was like at school. So, inevitably, sometimes your kiddo with autism does something and you think--"I didn't know he could do that."We had one of those moments this weekend when my husband handed him a basketball and he ended up sinking a few baskets. It was so cool and amazing and I really didn't know he could do that! So, here's to being amazed at the little things these kiddos with autism do all the time.
