Autism and Late Start Blues

It snowed last night and the school district put out the message that there would be a "Late Start" today, so that the roads could get plowed and everyone could get to school safely.Once most kids heard this, they decided to sleep in.Unfortunately, my sweet son with autism is having a meltdown because this is not how the schedule goes on a Thursday morning.I wrote the following note to him to attempt to explain why today's schedule was different. "School starts 2 hours late today because it snowed so much last night. So Nathan's bus will come around 8:40 am today."Yeah. That didn't go over very well. Nathan is upset and having a fit!Schedules are so important to them. You stick to the schedule no matter what! Change is always hard.Sigh! I will make it. Good luck to all parents of special needs kiddos and Special Ed teachers today! You're going to need it!
