A Sweet Lesson My Daughter Taught Me Amid Coronavirus Panic

It's Been a Little Crazy!

Yesterday was such a crazy Coronavirus day! The stock market crashed, NBA and NCAA games cancelled, travel began being limited, church was cancelled, and for goodness sakes Disneyland is actually closing temporarily. There was even a run on our local grocery store which experienced the "bare shelves" phenomenon. My family was a little out of sorts last night as well. My two high schoolers choir tour to California next week--which they have been looking forward to all year--was also cancelled. I guess I won't have to chaperone after all.Amid all of that craziness we sat and played games as a family--Uno, Sorry, and KingDomino rocked our table last night. You see, we've had cousins visiting all week (it has been their Spring Break). So, we enjoyed our last evening together before they began their 20-hour drive home to Texas today.

My Daughter's Sweet Lesson

Just as I was getting ready for bed, my teenage daughter poked her head in our room."Mom," she said, "I just had a cool experience praying."She then proceeded to tell me how she was telling God all about the Coronavirus stuff today and the changes happening right before her eyes. She's never seen anything like this and has been a bit anxious about all of it.Then, she said, "I just felt peace--like God has got it all under control."As I prayed last night I felt the same way--peace.

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27

God has got this. It isn't too big for Him.

The Power of Prayer

If you, like my daughter or myself are feeling anxious--pray. If you are feeling sad, overwhelmed, or scared--pray.The words to a familiar hymn echo through my mind at anxious times like this.

Oh, how praying rests the weary!

Prayer will change the night to day.

So, when life gets dark and dreary,

Don’t forget to pray.

(Hymnal, Did You Think to Pray?)

May the peace of God rest upon each of you, my friends, during these times of trial and uncertainty. May you feel His supporting and comforting peace as you pray.

Because He does indeed got this--and He loves and cares about you enough to tell you through the prayers of a sweet teenage girl.
