7 Bible Principles to Remember When You’re Weary

Exhausted? What can you do when you are beyond weary, and how can God help? Listen as I share 7 Bible principles I have learned from being weary.

7 Bible Principles to Remember When You’re Weary

1.     God is With You & Will Help You

Isaiah 41:10

10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah 43: 2-5

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: …

Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: …

Fear not: for I am with thee:

2.     Take Time to Rest

Genesis 2:2-3

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Remember one of the 10 Commandments—Exodus 20:8

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Something that pricked me last week in my scripture study—Isaiah 58:13-14

13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

3.     God can Strengthen and Renew

 My Bible verse mantra:

Philippians 4:13

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Key: Take my yoke upon you!

Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

4.     Submit & Let God guide you

Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

5.     Be Patient

Isaiah 40:31

31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Psalms 27:14 - Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Lamentations 3:25-26 - The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 - To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

6.     Take Care of Your Body

3 John 1:2 - Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

1 Corinthians 3:19, 20

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

7.     Claim the Power of Angels

Psalm 91:11-12

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Exodus 23:20

Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

2 Kings 6:16-18

16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

Concluding Verse

1 Peter 5:7

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Remember you are precious to Him!

Tamara Anderson 0:56

Hello, and welcome to another episode of Tamaraws Takeaways on the stories of hope in hard times podcast. I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson. And today, I'm going to ask you a question. Are you tired? If you're tired, raise your hand. I don't know about you. But this fall, I have felt pretty weary, pretty tired. I feel like I've been running for so long. And I kind of hit mid September. And I just have been dragging my feet. Because I'm tired. And I tend to be one of those people who just goes goes goes, goes goes. And then my body is really good about letting me know camera, you're doing too much and pushing too hard. And so today, I'd like to dedicate this podcast to those of you out there who feel that same way, who have felt just completely exhausted, worn out. What do you do? Where do you turn? How do you get that balance back in your life?

Tamara Anderson 2:03

And so to help us know what we should do when we're weary, I'm going to share with you seven Bible principles that I've learned and applied. And so I'm going to be sharing with you several Bible scriptures that have become very meaningful to me in my times of weariness.

Tamara Anderson 2:22

First, God is with you and will help you. Isaiah chapter 41, verse 10, says, Fear thou not, for I am with thee, Be not dismayed, for I am thy God, I will strengthen the yay, I will help the gate I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. I love that at the very beginning of this verse, God says, Fear thou not for I am with thee, when we're weary, when we're exhausted when we're worn out and just feel we can't put one more step in front of the other. God is with us in that moment. And he is willing to help us. The question is, will we let him?

Tamara Anderson 3:10

I love in Isaiah, chapter 43. I've been reading Isaiah lately, and there are some beautiful verses in there. Some of them are hard to understand, but some of them are so poetic and beautiful. Listen to this, when they'll pass this through the waters, I will be with thee, and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee, when they'll walk us through the fire, Thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee, for I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy savior, since thou was precious in my sight, and I have loved the Fear not for I am with thee. I love so many things about that group of verses there, but a few of them are when we're passing through hard times, and are exhausted. When we're passing through water, fire, flood, whatever it is, God is with us. And we are precious to him. It doesn't matter. He's talking specifically to Israel here. But Israel are his covenant people. If you're listening to this podcast, you are part of God's covenant people. He loves you, you are precious to him. It doesn't matter that you make mistakes.

Tamara Anderson 4:27

Israel made mistakes over and over and over and over again, throughout all of biblical history. And yet God loved Israel. And they are precious in his sight and you are precious in his sight. Doesn't matter if you make mistakes. I make mistakes all the time. And I know God sees me and knows me and loves me. He knows I'm trying. None of us are perfect. That's why we all need need Jesus in our lives, right. So remember, principle number One, when you are weary, exhausted, worn passing through hard times, God is with you, and will help you.

Tamara Anderson 5:10

Alright, principle number two, take time to rest. How many of you are good at this? Some people may be good. But I would say the vast majority of Americans are not very good at resting, we're good at Go, go, go, go, go. And we're not very good. It's taking a moment, if we're feeling particularly worn, we kind of just keep filling our lives and filling our lives and never take time to rest. And the reason I say this is a biblical principle is because in the very beginning of the Bible, God teaches us a powerful principle. On the seventh day, God ended His work which He had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God bless the seventh day and sanctified it, because that in it, he had rested from all His work which God created and made.

Tamara Anderson 6:10

Guys, if God knew the power and the importance of the principle of resting, don't you think we should learn it as well? It's something I'm reminding myself of right now, as I'm feeling worn and exhausted and having a hard time moving forward, that it is okay to rest. And I tell myself that, remember, it's okay to rest. The second part of that, that I'd like to bring up is how many of us are running seven days a week? We don't take time on the seventh day like he teaches us in the 10 commandments, to six days shalt thou labor and do all the work but on the seventh day, take the Sabbath day off. Take it off,

Tamara Anderson 7:02

What should you do on the Sabbath day? It's interesting, I kind of got pricked a little bit this last week when I was reading my scriptures. And I read this verse in Isaiah, chapter 58, verses 13, and 14. If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on My holy day, and call the Sabbath, a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable, shalt honor Him and not do nine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words, then shout, Val, delight, thyself and the Lord. And I will cause you to write up upon the high places of the earth, and feed the with the heritage of Jacob, thy father, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.

Tamara Anderson 7:46

So God is saying, on the Sabbath, make it different. Don't do anything, we just want it on the Sabbath, but make it a holy day for him. And as we do that, He will bless us and help us, He will cause us to ride upon the high places of the earth. And that's something I think, as a people we aren't doing as well as perhaps generations before us. So we have first remember, God is with you, and will help you second, remember to rest. And specifically, if you can make a little bit of improvement on keeping the Sabbath day holy, I think it will help all of us.

Tamara Anderson 8:29

The third principle, God can strengthen and renew. My Bible mantra can be found in Philippians 4:13. And it says, I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me. So basically, when I'm feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and weary, that I can lean on Christ, and He will give me the strength that I need to keep going to keep moving forward, to renew me.

Tamara Anderson 9:03

And there's a verse that I think goes hand in hand with that, which I absolutely love, both because of the measure of comfort, but also because of the key that it gives us to drawing on God's strength. This is found in Matthew chapter 11, verses 20 through 30. Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Isn't that beautiful? Like, oh, thank you, Lord. But this is the key. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Tamara Anderson 9:49

Now, what is interesting about this is that God is inviting us to come unto him to be strengthened by him to be helped by him when we're weary. Give us that rest that we're so desperately seeking. But it's interesting that what he does is he asks us to do a couple of things, one come to Him, we need to consciously make that choice to make God a part of our lives. Second, he invites us to take his yoke upon him, and learn of him. So not just come but learn, yoke yourself to the Savior, meaning put that, that bar across your shoulders that you're tugging and carrying your load with, and let him carry with you. Like, oh, Wouldn't you love to share your load with somebody, somebody that has all power and all strength? Raise your hand, because I know I need that. Every single day, my load is too heavy for me to carry alone. And I know that. And so how do we yoke ourselves to Him, we come to Him, we learn of him. Read your scriptures, say your prayers, make that connection with Jesus Christ, and He will help you not only strengthen you, but help you carry your load. And I love the end for my yoke is easy and my burden light.

Tamara Anderson 11:11

It sounds kind of contradictory. To say, I'm so exhausted, I can't handle one more thing and God's saying, do this one more thing. You're like, I don't know if I can. But when we do that one more thing coming unto him and yoking ourselves to Him. He helps us carry it. So yes, we're giving up a little bit, but he's giving us so much more. So That's principle number three, God can strengthen and renew us.

Tamara Anderson 11:42

Principle number four from the Bible, is submit and let God guide you. I don't know about you. But when I am weary, it's often because my life is out of balance. And I need to probably slow down. And I need God's help in letting me do that. I often when I'm overwhelmed, I go through and I write down things that I'm doing. And I prayerfully talk to God about all the things that I'm doing and say, am I supposed to be doing all these things? Is there something that I need to remove from my life, and sometimes the things he prompts me to remove, are things that I just kind of want to hold on to. But I've really liked doing that. And God's like, No, you need to let that go.

Tamara Anderson 12:33

Proverbs three, five through eight says, Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise, in thine own eyes, fear of the Lord and depart from evil, and it shall be health to the navel, and marrow to thy bones. So when we come to these points, when we are so weary, we can't go on. It's important to take those decisions to God, not lean on our own understanding, not be wise in our own eyes and think we know better than God. Because we don't. And remind ourselves on that, because as we do those things, God knows how to help us balance out our lives. He says, It shall be health to the navel, and marrow to the bones, he knows what's going to help us be able to move forward and take care of ourselves more healthfully. And so when he prompts us to add something, or take something out of our lives, we need to trust that He will guide us. So that fourth principle is so important, submit, and let God guide you.

Tamara Anderson 13:47

We're going to take a quick break. But when we get back, I will share with you three more Bible principles to remember when you are weary. Stay tuned.

Tamara Anderson 13:55

Are you looking for a gift for a friend, sister or mother who is really struggling right now and you're not sure what to get them? It's hard for me to sometimes find those gifts. And so today, I'm so excited to tell you about this booklet, The mother's might it's a perfect, simple, inexpensive gift you can give your friends, your family, your sisters, anyone that you want to share this story with. And it will be meaningful. It's not just a little piece of candy that they eat and forget. It's something they can read over and over again. Because so often we as women feel alone and overwhelmed and burdened, and like there's so many things weighing on our shoulders. And what I love about this story is that it points us to Jesus Christ in our times of trouble, that he understands us. He loves us, knows what we're going through and he is more than willing to help us bear that burden. And I love that about this story that it gives not only me hope that that it will convey that sense of hope for all of you. So, get your copy of it today TamaraK anderson.com/store, you can order one to 10, 20, however many you want, and we will get those to you so you can get them distributed. All right now on to our show.

Tamara Anderson 15:21

And we're back. All right, guys, we have been talking today about seven Bible principles to remember when you're weary. The first one is God is with you and will help you. The second one is take time to rest. The third one is God can strengthen and renew. The fourth one is submit, and let God guide you.

Tamara Anderson 15:46

We're now to principle number five, which is be patient. I'm laughing because it is so hard. I really thought I was a patient person. When I first got married, I was like, I am so patient and good. And I tell you what having kids and the challenges of life have taught me that I had a long way to go to develop patience and I still have a long way to go as far as developing patience. Because in an instant society where we push a button on the computer, and it gets delivered from Amazon, or we get something instantly instant downloads, whatever it is, it's hard. When God doesn't work like that, when it's not like we are talking to God and we push the vending machine button and whatever we're asking for just plops down into our life. So being patient is hard. Sometimes we're exhausted and weary. And it's because we're pushing too hard. Or maybe we need to fix some things in our lives. But as we work through our exhaustion with God, we learned some very, very important things. And that is that God has his own timing, for when things should unfold. If you're in a point where you're exhausted right now, it's not because you have failed and are beyond repair. It's often that you've just need to tweak a few things in your life and believe that tweaking can sometimes take time.

Tamara Anderson 17:27

So Isaiah, chapter 40, verse 31, this is one of my favorite, favorite verses in the Old Testament. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.

Tamara Anderson 17:55

I want those promises. And I want them so badly. But that first part about waiting is hard. waiting for God to bring the thing to pass, waiting maybe for your help to return. Waiting for the thing that you're praying for to happen. It's hard. Psalms 27:14 says, wait on the Lord be of good courage and he shall strengthen thy heart. Wait, I say on the Lord. Lamentations chapter three verses 25 and 26. The Lord is good to them that wait for him to the soul that seeketh him. Ecclesiastes chapter three verse one says, to everything, there's a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Tamara Anderson 18:46

God is aware of you and your circumstance. He knows how tired you are. And sometimes you need to be patient right back with him just as he is so very patient with you every single day. I know he's patient with me. Because sometimes it takes me a long time to work through things. I wish it was more quick. I wish it was more instant, but it's not. And so I find myself in a waiting pattern right now, as I'm preparing to launch a group called Women Warriors of Light. And I'm excited. But it's hard for me it's hard for me to transition out of some old things that I've been working on and into some new things that I'm opening, opening myself up to. And so I find I have to wait for God and His timing I have to wait for me to process things and sometimes I don't like waiting for myself to process things. I do want to push the instant button the easy button and say let's just be done with this. But waiting on the Lord is good and the promises are powerful. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint. Is it worth the wait? Yes, it always is, with God by our side, we can wait and watch and allow him to work his miracles not only in us, but in the lives of those around us to bring to pass great and marvelous things. All right, that was principle number five, be patient.

Tamara Anderson 20:28

Principle number six. Take care of your body. Oh, guys, we have a podcast coming up where we're going to talk a little bit more about taking care of our bodies. But until we get to that podcast, I wanted to share with you a couple of Bible verses about taking care of ourselves. Third, John, chapter one, verse two says, Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. And I love that that talks about us prospering not only in our body, but in our soul.

Tamara Anderson 21:04

First Corinthians chapter three talks a lot about how our bodies are a temple of God because his spirit is inside of us. And I love this. What Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which you have gamed, oh, God, and you're not your own, for your bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. And so I love that, we need to remember that our body and our spirit are connected. And that we need to not only take care of our spirit, but we need to take care of our body, physically. So get those checkups that you need to do go to the doctor, make sure that you're physically doing well. Because it's hard for us to move forward in life, it's hard for us to get out of our weariness. If we don't know what's wrong with our body.

Tamara Anderson 22:07

I've had to work for several, over a decade, probably almost 20 years. On taking care of myself, I have chronic migraines. I've had hormones off in my body and learning to balance that because of the constant stress that I'm under, has been a lesson in taking care of my body. And so I've learned a few things along the way. And I've gotten better at certain things. I've learned that my body was deficient, for example, in vitamin d3, especially when we moved here to Utah, and it's colder up here in the winter times. And I remember one of my doctors looking at taking my blood and looking at it, she goes, Oh, well this could be while you're drilling down into scourge, you're deficient in this vitamin. And vitamin d3 is one of those vitamins that you usually get from the sun. And so I've been taking a supplement ever since we moved here to Utah 10 years ago. And it has helped me actually I think I started taking nine years ago because that's when I figured out that I was deficient because I was feeling down and exhausted and worn. And it's because I was deficient.

Tamara Anderson 23:17

So remember that sometimes how we're feeling emotionally, is tied to how our body is doing physically. And so we need to take care of our bodies, so that we can keep moving forward and we can move out of that weariness. So keep looking, keep searching, find the people who will help you move out of it. And through it. It's not something that we can do all by ourselves. Often we need professionals and sometimes we need to talk to professionals, like counselors and stuff like that to help us move through hard things physically or emotionally. So number six is take care of your body.

Tamara Anderson 23:56

Principle number seven, our final principle I wanted to end on a bang here. And that is claim the power of angels and that sound great claim the power of angels when you are weary. I love Psalm 91 verses 1112 which says For he shall give His angels charge over the to keep thee and all by ways they shall bear the up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against the stone. And then in Exodus 23, verse 20, it says, Behold, I will send an Angel before the to keep the in the way and to bring me into the place which I have prepared. What I love about these verses is that often we feel so alone, when we're exhausted and weary and we feel like nobody knows how awful we feel how exhausted we are. And the truth is that we're never alone. Not only is God with us, but we can claim the power of the angel calls that he sends to be with us.

Tamara Anderson 25:02

When was the last time you prayed for angels to be with you? If you're feeling weary, claim this. Your Lord blessed me with the power of angels to be with me and strengthen me today. We can claim that as his followers, and He will bless us with angels. And if you're feeling particularly worn, there's a verse that is one of my favorite in the Old Testament, in Second Kings, where Elijah and his servant are surrounded by a city that is encompassed by their adversary. And here is what Eli should told his servant he said, Fear not for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. So if you're feeling weary, remember to pray with angels. Remember that although the adversary may be on the attack, they that be with us, God and His angels are more than they that be with the your adversary.

Tamara Anderson 26:11

Alright guys, that wraps it up for us the seven principles you should remember when you're weary first, that God is with you and will help you second take time to rest specially remember to try to make the Sabbath better. Third, God can and will strengthen and renew you just remember to yoke yourself to Him. Fourth, submit and let God guide you remember that he will help you know what you need to add or remove from your life. Fifth, be patient. No, no, I always laughed after after that one. But it's one of those ones, I still need reminders of it. Sixth, take care of your body physically, often that physical and spiritual are connected and seven, claim the power of angels.

Tamara Anderson 27:03

I'd like to conclude with one verse. That is a beautiful verse. And I think it's especially appropriate when you're feeling weary. It is found in First Peter chapter five, verse seven, and it says, Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you. My dear friends, it's my testimony that Jesus Christ sees you, he knows you. He knows you are very, very weary and exhausted right now. I invite you to take some time today to apply one of the principles I have shared with you. And then maybe once you've got that down to apply another one, because you can and will move through and out of your weariness as you Cast your burden on the Lord. Hope on my friends.
